Hello! I'm Ashley and I love poetry. I love poetry because it allows me to go deep into my feelings and express myself in ways that I can't with others. Poetry can be someone's saving grace. It can make people laugh, it can make people cry. It can unearth emotions that some never knew existed.
In the start of 2001, I was given a journal as a gift. I decided to start writing poetry just to get some feelings off of my chest. I was a young 14 year old that knew nothing about love or even like for that matter but I thought I did. When you are a teenager, you think you like or love someone when in actuality its nothing but pure juvenile infatuation. Over the years, that journal stayed with me and I continued writing. I would write as I graduated high school and entered college. I would write as a graduated college and entered the workforce. I would continue writing as I dated and married my husband. I lost some people along the way and my words would enter that journal. Arguments would ensure amongst myself and others and again my words would enter that journal. This year, I decided to publish some of those poems because I think it needed to escape the confines of my blue and silver journal and enter the world. That's when 'Love and Light: Poems from Teenager to Woman' was born. Welcome, as I share the inspiration behind my poetry, why I write and what makes my poetry special. |
